Graphic Design & Urban Drawing

Structural Study

In this project, we began by drawing a structure in class and then transformed that initial sketch into an imagined building. My design drew inspiration from Zaha Hadid and Gaudí, featuring repeating organic forms reminiscent of twisting vines. The final piece is a tonal graphic edit of the imagined building, rendered in five distinct tones to emphasize its form and depth.

Tonal Structure Study

This project explored Marsh Chapel through a three-stage process. The first piece began with a pencil drawing on site at BU Beach, capturing the building from an angle that felt personal to me, where students often relax, and conveying the emotional presence of the chapel as I experience it. The second piece translated the drawing into a black and white graphic rendering, simplifying the forms to their essential shapes and structure. The final design brought the chapel to life in a multi-value polychrome rendering, adding color and depth while keeping the feeling and atmosphere of the original view intact.

Multi-value Study

This project explored the interior of the Joan and Edgar Allen Booth. The first piece is a line drawing created on site, capturing the space and atmosphere as I experienced it firsthand. The second piece is a black-and-white graphic rendering, distilling the forms and structure of the interior to their essentials. The final piece is a five-tone composition in shades of blue and yellow, emphasizing depth, light, and the spatial qualities of the space while preserving the feeling of being inside the building.
